Geraldine de Leon
Geraldine de Leon is a Venezuelan illustrator based in Abuja, Nigeria, originally from the Paraguaná Peninsula. A self-taught artist, she works in visual storytelling and editorial illustration, approaching each project as an opportunity to discover its own visual language through experimentation, observation, and dialogue with the text.
Her practice is characterised by graphic experimentation and a sensitivity to the emotional resonance of images. She has collaborated on several illustrated and editorial projects, including Emozionàti (Mindful Sicilia, 2021) and Accordi (Mindful Sicilia, 2025). She also illustrated the covers of Anime Animale and Mariposa by Valentina Selgi, as well as Mañana es septiembre, an illustrated poetry book by Guillermo de León Calles.
De Leon also illustrated Matteo e i puppi siciliani by Pina Spinella and Giovanna Russo, which received the International Michelangelo Buonarroti Prize in the children’s narrative category. Her picture book La pradera de chocolate, written by Pina Spinella, was awarded first place in the Illustrators category of the H. C. Andersen – Baia delle Favole Prize in Sestri Levante, Italy.
Before dedicating herself fully to illustration, she completed a degree in Chemical Engineering and a master’s degree in Petroleum Management and Economics. Alongside her illustration practice, she teaches Spanish and develops visual learning materials.
