Northern Light Series is an innovation of the Founder of BBF, Ms Lola Shoneyin. It came out of a desire to fill a gap in Nigerian publishing. Although there are millions of children in school and out of school in Nigeria, there is a shockingly low number of good-quality, visually appealing supplementary texts that enhance the learning that goes on in the classroom. For a more rounded educational experience, it is important that children have access to books that speak to them and portray their realities. In writing each book, a lot of research is undertaken to gain insight into the lives of children who live eventful and interesting lives, despite living in communities we may have never heard of.
