Nkereuwem Albert was born in Lagos, Nigeria and spent his early adult years in Calabar, where he drew on the spirituality and lore he encountered every day to tell stories across a spectrum of genres from surreal and fabulist African mysticism to fantasy, science fiction and beyond.
His debut novel The Bone River—a sapphic urban fantasy set in Calabar—was longlisted for the 2026 BSFA Awards and is a 2026 Nommo Award nominee. His short stories and essays have featured in publications such as Omenana, Fusion Fragment, FIYAH, Will This Be A Problem and the Applied African Speculative Fiction anthology. He received the 2023 Dream Foundry Prize for Emerging Writers and is a 2026 Ignyte Awards finalist.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery from the University of Calabar, and when he’s not writing, he works as a dentist.
