Joseph O. Ike serves as the Director General of the Kaduna State Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency (KADSAMHSA), a pivotal agency within the Kaduna State Government established to address the critical public health challenges of substance abuse and mental health across the state. Under his leadership, KADSAMHSA is dedicated to championing policies and programs that ensure access to evidence-based, community-based prevention, treatment, care, and support services for individuals grappling with drug use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
He is a Fellow of International Public Policy and Health Leadership (IPPHL) and a Mental Health Leadership and Advocacy Program (MHLAP) Fellow. He is also recognized as a distinguished researcher with a specialized focus on mental health and psychosocial issues, particularly within the Nigerian context. His significant research contributions include critical studies on the impact of psycho-trauma and psychosocial adjustment among internally displaced persons in Kaduna (published in Frontiers in Psychiatry, 2014) and the determinants of psychoactive substance use among incarcerated delinquents in Nigeria (featured in the African Journal of Drug and Alcohol Studies, 2012).
